Gentle, Profound Work for the Nervous System and Whole Body

Craniosacral Therapy (often called cranial sacral) is a gentle, hands-on healing approach that works with the subtle rhythms of the body's central nervous system. The focus is on the craniosacral system, the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Because this system influences so many of the body's functions, even the softest touch can create deep shifts.

If you've tried everything else for your headaches, neck tension, or stress-related symptoms and nothing has provided lasting relief, craniosacral therapy might be exactly what your nervous system has been asking for. This work operates at a level most therapies never reach, addressing the deep patterns that keep pain and tension cycling back.

How Craniosacral Therapy Works

During a session, the practitioner uses light pressure, often no more than the weight of a nickel, to assess and support the natural movement of the bones of the skull, spine, and sacrum. This touch helps the body release tension patterns held deep within the tissues and nervous system. Instead of forcing change, CST invites the body into a state of ease, allowing it to correct imbalances on its own.

The craniosacral system has its own rhythm, a subtle pulse that trained hands can feel and work with. When restrictions exist in this system, whether from injury, stress, birth trauma, or accumulated tension, the rhythm becomes disrupted. This disruption can manifest as headaches, jaw pain, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, chronic neck and back discomfort, or a nervous system that never quite settles.

Craniosacral therapy works by listening to these rhythms and gently supporting the body in releasing what's stuck. The practitioner's hands act as a kind of facilitator, creating the conditions for the body's own corrective mechanisms to activate. It's remarkably subtle work, but the effects can be profound and long-lasting.

  • What to Expect During Your Session

Craniosacral therapy sessions look very different from traditional massage. You remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on a massage table. The room is quiet, the lighting soft. The entire environment is designed to help your nervous system feel safe enough to let go.

The session begins with the practitioner gently placing their hands on your head, often starting at the base of the skull. From there, work may move to your sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine), your feet, or other areas where restrictions are being held. The touch is incredibly light. If you're expecting deep pressure, this will feel like almost nothing at first.

But within that lightness, something happens. Your breathing begins to slow and deepen. Your thoughts quiet. You might feel warmth spreading through your body, subtle pulsations, gentle movements as tissues release, or waves of relaxation washing over you. Some people enter a deeply meditative state. Others fall asleep. Some experience emotional releases, tears, or memories surfacing. All of these responses are normal and welcomed.

People often describe the experience as deeply calming. The nervous system begins to settle, the breathing softens, and the body drops into restorative stillness. As restrictions unwind, clients may feel gentle pulsations, warmth, a sense of floating, or emotional release. Each session can be uniquely tailored, responding to where the body is ready to shift.

Sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes, though the work itself often continues for hours or even days afterward as your body integrates the changes. Many clients notice improved sleep, reduced pain, clearer thinking, or a sense of spaciousness in their bodies in the days following a session.

    Who Craniosacral Therapy Is For

Craniosacral therapy is particularly valuable for people dealing with chronic head, neck, or jaw pain, those recovering from head injuries or whiplash, and anyone whose nervous system feels stuck in high alert or overwhelmed by anxiety. It's also ideal for those who need gentle work due to pain sensitivity, medical conditions, or past trauma.

  • Patti's Training and Approach

Craniosacral therapy requires a level of sensitivity and presence that goes beyond technique. It asks the practitioner to be still, to listen deeply, and to trust what they're feeling under their hands. After more than 30 years working with bodies as a massage therapist and energy healer, I've developed the kind of refined touch that this work demands.

My training in craniosacral therapy comes from extensive coursework with certified instructors who understand both the anatomy and the subtle energy dynamics at play. But what really makes this work effective is the integration of everything else I bring to the table: my background in massage therapy, my experience with Reiki and energy work, my understanding of nervous system regulation through breathwork, and my ability to hold space for whatever needs to surface.

I approach each session with curiosity rather than agenda. Your body knows what it needs to release and in what order. My job is to create the conditions for that release to happen safely and to follow where your system wants to go. Sometimes that means working primarily with the cranial bones. Other times it means spending most of the session at your sacrum or feet. I trust the process and I trust your body's wisdom.

At its core, CST honors the body's innate wisdom. By creating a safe and quiet environment and using subtle, intuitive touch, it encourages the whole system, physical, emotional, and energetic, to move toward balance, clarity, and ease.
